Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse is a local, family-owned business with a knowledgeable staff on-site to answer all of your plant questions. Located in King, NC, just north of Winston-Salem, they sell to landscapers, contractors, florists, garden centers, and the public.

Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse was started by Judy and Jim Mitchell in 1979 on an extra lot beside their house. Jim and Judy both graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in horticulture, where they had courses related to landscape design and maintaining a nursery and greenhouse.Â
In 1993, the Mitchells moved the growing nursery to the present location on Dalton Road. The first greenhouse was added in 1996. In 2001, after working in a large greenhouse operation in Raleigh, their son, Jay, came back to help with the family business.
Since then, they have added 13 more greenhouse bays, three of which were added for the spring 2019 growing season. The last 10 are gutter connected, to save energy. In the summer of 2008, they also installed an energy curtain to conserve more heat. Seven are watered with drip irrigation to conserve water and have rolling benches to grow more in less space.
A new piece of property was purchased down the road from their retail area. It was graded to accommodate new tree and shrub beds and as an area for newly potted plants to grow until they are ready for sale in their retail area.
Mitchell's is celebrating 45 years in business!
Mitchell's is a member of the North Carolina Agritourism Networking Association, North Carolina Commercial Flower Growers Association, King Chamber of Commerce, Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce, North Carolina Green Industry Council, and the Goodness Grows in North Carolina program. Mitchell's is also on the Birding Trail Map for NC.
